Amendment C160: 1-9 Merri-bek Road, Coburg
Council decision
At the 14 June 2017 Council Meeting, Council considered the report of the panel appointed to consider Amendment C160 to the Merri-bek Planning Scheme.
Council resolved to adopt the amendment and submit the amendment to the Minister for Planning for approval.
In addition, Council resolved to accompany the amendment with a letter which further clarifies Council's position that no vehicles should be able to access the development from Moore Street.
Officers are preparing documentation in accordance with Council's resolution and will submit the amendment for approval when this is completed (anticipated to be within the first quarter of the 2017-18 financial year).
When a decision from the Minster is received this web page will be updated and submitters will be notified of the outcome of the decision.

About Amendment C160
Council prepared amendment C160 to the Merri-bek Planning Scheme.
Land affected by the amendment
The land affected by the amendment is located at 1-9 Merri-bek Road, Coburg (the 'site'). The site is currently in the Industrial 3 Zone and is used as a showroom, offices and warehouse.
The site is located between Campbell Reserve and the Merri Creek, Merri-bek Road and Moore Street. It is adjacent to the Merri-bek Road/Nicholson Street, Coburg Neighbourhood Activity Centre.
What the amendment does
The proposed Amendment C160 will allow for a wider mix of industrial and office uses and opportunities for mixed-use residential development. The amendment proposes to:
- Rezone the site from Industrial 3 Zone to part Commercial 2 Zone (C2Z) and part Mixed Use Zone (MUZ).
- Introduce a new Design and Development Overlay (DDO25) to the site that applies new built form requirements including a mandatory maximum height of 6 storeys.
- Modify the extent of the Heritage Overlay to apply to the office building fronting Merri-bek Road.
- Apply the Environmental Audit Overlay (EAO) to the site to ensure potential contamination issues are addressed.
