Almost Like A Reality: The Landscape and its Subjects

Almost Like A Reality: The Landscape and its Subjects

Simon Grennan

Exhibition: Friday 20 July – Sunday 19 August 2018

Opening:

19 July Thursday

6 - 8 pm

A body of paintings which re-examines our experience of landscape, drawing on the artist’s research into data transformation, with a focus on how quantitative information becomes expressed as a qualitative result. For instance, the landscape can be seen as a forensic site rather than a purely aesthetic proposition. Repetitions of specific vistas also are placed side by side to suggest that the proposition of a fixed landscape idyll is problematic as it always looked through the lens of personal experience. In this sense the landscape is no longer an object but a series of encounters.
