Council's immunisation services

It is estimated that vaccination currently saves approximately 3 million lives each year worldwide. Over 90 per cent of children are vaccinated in Australia.

Council and general practitioners are the main providers of immunisation to the community.

Reasons to vaccinate

Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way of protecting children (and adults) against certain diseases.

When you are vaccinated, your body produces an immune response in the same way your body would after exposure to a disease, but without you suffering symptoms of the disease. When you come in contact with that disease in the future, your immune system will respond fast enough to prevent you developing the disease.

Council's immunisation sessions

Council provides vaccination to eligible people for all the vaccines recommended by the National Immunisation Program. It also offers some additional paid vaccines.

Council's immunisation service runs regular immunisation sessions for anyone living, working or visiting the Merri-bek area. They also conduct immunisation sessions at secondary schools in Merri-bek.

Registered immunisation nurses are present at each of these sessions to administer the vaccines and you are welcome to ask questions at any time.
