Morefood 4 Merri-bek

Many Merri-bek community residents and their families have lost income, jobs and struggle to make ends meet due to the impact of Covid-19.

Community Information & Support Merri-bek have partnered with Fawkner Food Bowl, The Fawkner Community Grocer and Fawkner Commons in this campaign, which is being managed by the Inner North Community Foundation as part of its Covid 19 Disaster Relief Fund. Your donation can assist these local community groups to provide food relief and other essential items. Find out more on the Food Boxes for Merri-bek website.

 

Fawkner Commons

Fawkner Commons is a COVID-responsive project of Fawkner Food Bowls Inc. servicing a growing need for food relief across Fawkner, Glenroy and Hadfield.

What they need:

  • Basmati rice
  • Red and Yellow lentils
  • Cooking oils
  • Harvests from productive backyards (citrus, greens, herbs. etc)
  • Volunteers

St Vincent de Paul Pascoe Vale provides food hampers for individuals and families facing financial hardship.

Muslim Women's council of Victoria Inc.

The Muslim Women’s Council of Victoria inc. prepare take away food packs for disadvantaged members of the community, especially International students who have lost their jobs as a result of Covid and have limited access to government benefits and payments.

What they need:

  • long grain Rice
  • sugar
  • lentils
  • flour
  • cooking oils
  • fresh vegetables

Youth Projects (Glenroy)

What they need:

Youth Projects are calling out for donations of the following items:

  • Socks and underwear (new and various sizes)
  • Supermarket vouchers 
  • Phone credit (all major mobile providers)

Alternatively, we always strongly encourage people to donate financially to Youth Projects as this gives the flexibility of responding to the immediate needs of people in crisis

Salvation Army Asylum Seeker and Refugee Service

What they need:

  • Dried lentils and chickpeas
  • Tinned Tuna

  • Sugar
  • Honey
  • Jam
  • Tea & Coffee
  • Toiletries: Shampoo (Adults and Children), Deodorant (men and women), Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes (Adults and Children)
  • Pencils, textas, crayons and children’s activity books

Donations can be dropped off at the Centre during Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 2pm.

Brunswick Salvos

Brunswick Salvos have supported local people facing hardship for many years. During the pandemic, they continue to provide meals, giving out 1000 just in the last few weeks. As well, they provide shower and laundry facilities, care packages and emergency relief. 

What they need:
