The Economic Development Strategy 2016-21 builds on the previous strategy and demonstrates initiatives to support a strong and vibrant economy. Its overall goal is to facilitate the development of a local economy that is productive and growing, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable.

The strategy will guide an action plan for the Economic Development Branch and provide an organisational view of the numerous strategies that contribute to the overall health of Merri-bek's economy. Alignment of the Economic Development Strategy 2016-21 with other Council strategies, including the land-use planning framework, is critical.
