Project background

First opened in 1966, the Oak Park pool has seen generations of happy families and friends mingle and play under the summer sun, but the much-loved facility was long overdue for a full redevelopment.

The redevelopment includes:

  • New 50 metre x 8 lane outdoor heated pool with entry ramp
  • New outdoor heated learn to swim pool
  • New outdoor heated children’s play pool with water play equipment and beach entry
  • New water slides
  • Wet and dry change facilities
  • Accessible change rooms
  • Reception and back of house facilities
  • Kiosk and retail space
  • New gymnasiums
  • Multi-purpose and group fitness space
  • Studio
  • New sports pavilion
  • Landscaped areas, and
  • Parking and traffic flow improvements.

The Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre redevelopment is Merri-bek’s largest ever capital works project.

The $27.3m project was funded entirely by the community, with no assistance provided by the State or Federal Government.
