Fleming Park, Brunswick East - Open space refurbishment

Project background

The play space and picnic area at Fleming Park has been upgraded to include a new toilet, picnic shelter, climbing tower, basket swing, planting and lots of interesting play elements. Works were finished in November.

The upgraded picnic area now has a new park shelter and barbecue as well as new picnic settings and drink fountains, along with additional tree planting for shade.

The scope of work for installation of new toilet facilities and a park and play space upgrade to be constructed are shown in the Revised Open Space Upgrade Plan (PDF 262Kb).

Additionally, Council is consulting the community ahead of refreshing the Fleming Park Master Plan.

Lawn area

Lawn areas have been top dressed with fresh soil and hydroseeded to help the existing grass recover and provide a fresh cover of green growth.

Establishment of lawn is expected to progress quickly with the spring weather bringing some rain and plenty of sunshine in weeks to come.

In the meantime these lawn areas have been cordoned off with bunting to encourage people to stay off the hydroseeding until the lawn is able to be mown and the bunting is taken down.

Path separation work

Path separation works were complete 13 to 20 November 2017.

The shared path realignment sees the physical separation of cycle path from the circuit footpath around the oval, which is shown in the Shared Path Alignment Plan (PDF 123Kb).

This is one of a number of changes in the path network in the eastern portion of Fleming Park designed to achieve significant improvement in circulation and safety, greatly reducing potential conflict between cyclists and pedestrians.
