Gilpin Park, Brunswick - New enclosed dog park
Enclosed dog park now open
The enclosed dog park at Gilpin Park was open for business from Tuesday 17 July and the official opening celebration was held on Thursday 13 September 2018.
Project background
One of the objectives of Council's Domestic Animal Management Plan (PDF 1Mb) was to investigate the possibility of a dog only agility park. This is an area which is fenced off with a dual access gate entry.
Council endorsed Gilpin Park, Brunswick as the preferred location for an enclosed dog park at the November 2017 Council meeting.
These parks are designed to provide dogs with physical exercise and mental stimulation, help prevent behavioural problems, and allow dog owners to learn to control their dog in a confined area.
The whole of Gilpin Park remains an off leash park and local laws apply.
Signs are placed at the entries to the dog enclosure, with clear guidelines so people can understand what is expected of owners and handlers and their dogs when they are at Gilpin Park, particularly inside the fenced area.
Timelines
The program for this project:
- Completion of works 16 July 2018
