Kirkdale Park, Brunswick East - New nature play space
The play space at Kirkdale Park in Brunswick East was upgraded as part of Council’s 2015-16 Playground Strategy Implementation program.
The result is a unique new ‘nature play space’, featuring a first for Merri-bek’s parks; a hand water pump at the top of a playful mound. The intent is to encourage children to interact with water and other natural materials as the water trickles through rock ponds, down to a sand digging patch.
Inspired by the Merri Creek environment the play space also features a timber tee pee and bird-hide play structure nestled amongst beautiful native plantings, complimented by more traditional play equipment; swings, slides and a carousel.
A celebration was held at the new play space on Wednesday 13 July 2016 with residents and park users.
A note on dogs
Residents are reminded that Kirkdale Park is an off-leash park, however dogs are not permitted in the play space or barbecue areas at any time, and must be on leash within 2 metres of the Merri Creek Shared Trail.
