61.3% of Brunswick residents stated they were born in Australia. The top 5 countries of birth for Brunswick (excluding Australia) were Italy, England, New Zealand, Greece and China.

Languages

Brunswick has a larger proportion of residents who speak English only (66.0%) compared to the City of Merri-bek (56.0%).

Religion

A larger proportion of Brunswick residents professed no religious affiliation (50.4%) compared to the City of Merri-bek (31.9%).

There was a slight majority of separate houses in Brunswick (35.7%). This was followed by flats/apartments (33.5%) and semi-detached, row/terrace housing (29.5%). Two bedroom dwellings were more common (42.5%) in Brunswick than three bedroom dwellings (29.5%) which was the next most common number of bedrooms.

In the City of Merri-bek separate houses accounted for 56.3 per cent of dwellings. This was followed by semi-detached, row/terrace housing (26.3%) and flats/apartments (16.6%) and. Three bedroom dwellings were more common (41.6%) in Merri-bek than two bedroom dwellings (33.3%) which was the next most common number of bedrooms.
