Park upgrades will help Merri-bekers 'Get Active' (media release)
10 September 2020
Moreland residents can look forward to enjoying enhanced park facilities at eight locations across the municipality as part of Merri-bek Council’s Get Active Merri-bek Enhancement Project.
Selected parks in Glenroy, Pascoe Vale, Hadfield, West and East Brunswick, Coburg and Fawkner will be upgraded to include BBQ picnic shelters, outdoor fitness equipment, seating, drink fountains and new circuit paths.
Council has committed $8.5 million to open space improvements across the municipality this financial year. An additional $2 million from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program will extend the scope of the upgrades in 2020-21.
Moreland Mayor Cr Lambros Tapinos said the project highlights Council’s commitment to ensure that all residents have access to high quality public park and exercise facilities.
“We are working hard to provide additional facilities in our parks and open spaces that our community can enjoy, encouraging them to be active which has long lasting physical and mental health benefits.”
“With increased visitation to our parks during COVID-19 restrictions, we’ve identified opportunities to expand the current project plans to include outdoor fitness equipment, picnic areas, circuit paths, seating and drink fountains.”
The project will commence in October 2020, with completion of all works by September 2021.
Sewell Reserve in Glenroy, Rayner Reserve in Pascoe Vale, and Martin Reserve in Hadfield will receive a BBQ picnic area with shelter, outdoor fitness equipment, seating, drink fountains and new circuit paths.
