Nicholson Street Tram Stops (Media release)

At its August meeting, Merri-bek City Council resolved to ask Public Transport Victoria to review its design of the proposed super stops at the end of the 96 tram line on Nicholson Street in East Brunswick.

Moreland Mayor Cr John Kavanagh said it was never Council’s intention to deny wheelchair users and parents with prams access to the super stops.

“Council’s resolution was consistent with its long-term commitment to make sure that all new transport infrastructure in the municipality – where practical and reasonable – takes into account the many thousands of Merri-bekers who travel by bicycle,” said Cr Kavanagh.

“PTV’s plans did not include a bike lane, and our decision not to approve the plan was driven by the desire to consider the broad range of users.”
