Mayor's Christmas message
On behalf of all of us here at Merri-bek City Council I want to wish all residents a happy and safe holiday.
If this time holds religious significance for you, I wish you, your family and friends a very safe and holy Christmas.
This season is also a time to consider those who are less fortunate and think of our neighbours who may be in need of our support during this time.
As the temperature begins to soar, the days and nights can become uncomfortable for many, particularly our older residents. Plan ahead for hot days and think about where you can go when the heat hits. If you do need to go out, try to do so early in the day, so you can be back indoors before the heat sets in.
Council is providing some options to beat the searing heat. You can visit your local aquatic and leisure centres, and shady parks.
Visit the Active Merri-bek website to view upcoming activities and workshops over the summer break.
If you prefer indoors, the libraries are lovely and cool and a great place to relax with a book or a magazine. Check out our Libraries After Dark Program.
Brunswick Library, Coburg Library, Glenroy Library, Brunswick Customer Service Centre and the Moreland Civic Centre in Coburg, during opening hours, are all cool places that you are welcome to visit and get out of the heat.
Moreland has 7 neighbourhood houses, some of which are open all throughout January and free for you to drop in and have a cup of tea and a chat with friendly staff.
Keep cool, safe and enjoy the season with family, friends and loved ones.
See you in 2019.
Mayor Cr Natalie Abboud
