After four and a half years as Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo has resigned after being appointed to the role of Executive General Manager, Service Delivery at Melbourne Water.

Announcing her end of July exit, Dr Di Lorenzo said it is difficult to leave such a positive and innovative Council, but she is excited about her new position and the ability to continue contributing to Melbourne’s long-term liveability and sustainability.

“It has been an honour to play a part in Merri-bek’s successes in partnership with the Mayor, Councillors and staff since 2015,” Dr Di Lorenzo said.

"I am particularly proud to have assisted the organisation in strengthening its performance, its ability to deliver and its financial capacity. I leave knowing that the organisation is well placed for future success,” she added.

Merri-bek Mayor Cr Natalie Abboud said, “In a period of rate-capping, Dr Di Lorenzo delivered organisational efficiencies to create a funding pipeline for Council’s major projects, while maintaining service levels for the community.

“Bringing projects like the fully Council funded redevelopment of the Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre and two new parks in the heart of Brunswick through the ‘A Park Close to Home’ initiative demonstrate the strategic foresight Dr Di Lorenzo has brought to the role.

“Her clear future focus, commitment to community betterment and strong business acumen has assisted Council deliver on its bold transformative plan that is making a difference to the lives of many residents.

“We wish Dr Di Lorenzo and her family every success and happiness. We will miss her stewardship, passion and deep connection to the Merri-bek community in which she was raised,” said Cr Abboud.

Dr Di Lorenzo also previously held the position of Director City Infrastructure between 2009 and 2013.

Council will shortly commence its recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer in July 2019.
