School crossing supervisors back on board and up for an award (media release)

10 June 2020

Have you missed your School Crossing Supervisor’s enthusiastic and friendly hello every school day as they help you cross the road safely with a smile?

If that’s a yes, they might just be in the running for the 2019/2020 School Crossing Supervisor of the Year.

With all Victorian school children back in the classroom this week, School Crossings Victoria is asking the community to nominate their favourite crossing supervisor to help recognise and celebrate the active role crossing supervisors play in the safety of our children.

Nominations for the awards have now been extended until 30 June 2020.

Moreland Mayor Cr Lambros Tapinos said the program ensures our crossing supervisors are shown the appreciation they deserve for their dedication and commitment to the safety of children in our community.

“Our crossing supervisors are there rain, hail or shine to help our children and their parents and carers get to and from school safely,” said Cr Tapinos.

“We’d love people in Merri-bek to express their thanks for their local school crossing supervisor by nominating them for the School Crossing Supervisor of the Year.”

Nominations can be made at

Judging for the award is based on supervisors being professional in their demeanour and presentation, their knowledge of the road rules relating to school crossings, their being welcoming, caring, supportive and encouraging of all school crossing users and their involvement in the school community.

The awards were established in 2010 to acknowledge the contribution and spirit of the work undertaken by school crossing supervisors throughout Victoria.

The awards take place every two years. A winner is selected from each of the seven regions across Victoria and an overall winner is selected from the regional winners.
