Celebrating women in art (Media release)
The Counihan Gallery in Brunswick is celebrating women with 2 new exhibitions.
The exhibitions began in March for Women's History Month and see women artists aiming to challenge established perceptions of the world.
In Gallery 1, Elif Sezen's paintings of doors and openings in The Second Homecoming are a metaphor for spiritual yearning and the obstacles to belonging. In The Correspondence of Noticing in Gallery 2, 5 female artists look for stories and small indicators in our surroundings that signify survival, resistance and connection in what they see as an otherwise oppressive environmental reality.
The 2 exhibitions are on at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick until Sunday 15 April.
